Bite and Texture: Is it crisp, chewy, soft, or somewhere in between? Does it hold together or crumble the second you bite in?
Cookie Flavor: Does the cookie itself taste buttery and rich, or bland and chalky?
Chocolate Quality: Are the chocolate chips spread out evenly, or do you get a few chip-heavy bites and a lot of plain dough? Does it taste like real chocolate, or more like a waxy chocolate-flavored chip?
WYBI (Would You Buy It?): Would you buy this over other grocery cookie brands? Is it enjoyable enough to purchase again?
Fine Print
The Lineup: We tested 7 chocolate chip cookies you'll find in groceries and supermarkets in Metro Manila. We focused on widely available packaged options and grouped variants of the same brand together for fair comparison. We did not include chocolate chip cookies from bakeries and home businesses, which fall into a different category in terms of price and quality.
Why We're Doing This: Even without the fresh-out-of-the-oven factor, grocery chocolate chip cookies have a charm all their own. We wanted to see which chocolate chip cookies are good for snacking when freshly baked isn't available. Which brands deserve to be your go-to, and which ones are a pass?
How We Tasted: Each cookie was tasted the way people eat it—straight out of the pack.
Blind Taste Test: All brands were removed from their packaging, labeled, and tasted blind to prevent brand bias.
How We Scored: Each product was evaluated across 4 criteria. Final placements reflect the Pepper team's averaged impressions.
Transparency: No brand paid for inclusion in this taste test.
