Texture: Does it have a pleasing bite (crisp, crunchy, tender)? Does it make the biscuit fun to eat?
Flavor: Does it taste good? Would you seek this out again just for the taste?
Sweetness: Is the sweetness balanced or cloying? Does it allow or get in the way of other flavors?
Value for Money: M&S snacks are on the pricier end. Does the quality match the price? Would you buy it again for the current price?
Giftability: Would you feel good giving or receiving this as a gift? Does it feel special enough as a treat, not just for everyday snacking?
Fine Print
The Lineup: We picked 20 biscuits from Marks & Spencer’s food section. We made sure to include the two most popular snacks—the digestives and chocolate rounds—and picked 18 similar biscuits and chocolate-flavored snacks. We did not include all M&S cookies, which had its own sub-categories.
Why We’re Doing This: Marks & Spencer snacks are a go-to for last-minute gifting, especially during the holidays. People usually make a beeline for the Digestives and Chocolate Rounds, but are they really the best in quality and value for money? We wanted to see if some lesser-known options are worth trying.
How We Tasted: Each biscuit was sampled on its own so we could focus on texture, flavor, sweetness, balance, and overall enjoyment.
Blind Taste Test: All biscuits were removed from their packaging, labeled, numbered, and tasted blind to keep brand bias out of the equation.
How We Scored: Each biscuit was evaluated across five criteria. Final placements reflect the Pepper team’s averaged impressions.
Transparency: This is not sponsored by Marks & Spencer. All biscuits were paid for by Pepper.
