Flavor: Does it taste like mayo—eggy, savory, with just enough acidity? Is it balanced in flavor, or do certain notes dominate?
Mouthfeel: Is it rich and creamy? Loose or jiggly? Light or dense?
Use Case: In which dishes would this mayo actually shine? Is it versatile enough to be an all-rounder, or better for certain cases—sandwiches, dips, classic Pinoy mac salad?
Fine Print
The Lineup: We tested 11 brands of mayonnaise and all-purpose dressing from the grocery. We included Western brands and Japanese-style mayonnaise. We did not include flavored mayo, which fall into a different category in terms of flavor.
Why We’re Doing This: The mayo aisle is busier than ever. There’s real mayonnaise, all-purpose dressings (the sweeter, more affordable Pinoy take), and even Japanese-style mayos trying to channel Kewpie. Which ones are actually worth buying, whether you’re making a proper sandwich or Christmas mac salad? Does imported beat local, or have we been paying for the label? And what's the best all-rounder you can grab without overthinking the price tag?
How We Tasted: Each brand was squeezed or spooned out of its packaging and sampled as is.
Blind Taste Test: All brands were removed from their packaging, labeled, and tasted blind to prevent brand bias.
How We Scored: Each product was evaluated across 3 criteria. Final placements reflect the Pepper team’s averaged impressions.
Transparency: No brand paid for inclusion in this taste test. Lady’s Choice, Magnolia, and Danes have been past advertising partners of Pepper.
