The Lineup: We tested 6 plain Greek yogurts from supermarkets and groceries in Metro Manila. We focused on widely available, on-the-shelf options and did not include flavored or fruit-on-the-bottom versions, which fall into a different category with their own sugar and fruit-ratio content.
Why We're Doing This: You’re paying nearly double for Greek yogurt, and usually for good reason: more protein, thicker body, and tang that holds up on its own. That’s the promise on the label, and not every tub delivers. Some are thinned out and barely tart.Some lean sweet. Some have less protein than others. We wanted to find out which grocery Greek yogurts actually earn the name, so you know which ones are worth the extra pesos and the protein claim on the pack.
Greek Yogurt vs. Regular Yogurt: The difference comes down to straining. Greek yogurt is strained multiple times to remove excess whey, which is what gives it that thick, almost spoonable texture, concentrated tang, and roughly double the protein per serving compared to regular yogurt. Regular yogurt skips that extra straining, so it stays thinner, milder, and lower in protein. That's also why Greek yogurt is pricier: it takes more milk to make less yogurt.
How We Tasted: Each yogurt was sampled plain from the tub at the same temperature.
Blind Taste Test: All brands were removed from their packaging, labeled, and tasted blind to prevent brand bias.
How We Scored: Each brand was evaluated across 3 criteria. Final placements reflect the Pepper team's averaged impressions.
