If You Like Star Wars then Check Out These ‘Star Bars’ and Other Movie-Inspired Desserts by Sweet Lorraine

March 24, 2020

It is always disheartening when a product is overhyped but falls too short from the expectation. There are merely a handful products that live up to the initial hubbub, and these movie-themed desserts by Sweet Lorraine Bakeshop are one of that few. Dressed and packaged in pop culture’s most defining films, these treats are definitely worth the quirk (and worth the purchase).

Starting off this sweet slew are her Goldfinger Bars, which are a hearty mash-up of sticky caramel and chewy coconut, cloaked in gooey maple and brown butter. Inspired by the James Bond flick, sinking our teeth into these bars reminds us of a long stroll at a sunny beach.

Citizen Cake

An homage to Orson Welles’ black-and-white flick, Citizen Kane, this bittersweet chocolate cake is further enveloped in deep chocolate notes thanks to a dark chocolate glaze. On the top rests a single sugar-paste rose to commemorate the enigmatic ‘rosebud’ uttered by Kane on his final breath. This cake is just as intriguing (and well-executed) as its big screen counterpart.

Taking its cue from the upcoming Star Wars movie, these Star Bars are a melange of almond, chocolate, caramel, and more coconut! We’re definitely going crazy overy these chewy (get it, get it?) squares.

Cannoli Pie

My personal favorite of the bunch is this Cannoli Pie that’s made with sweetened ricotta cheese, studded with chocolate chips, and baked inside a shortbread crust that’s crunchy and buttery at the same time. It instantly crumbles as you bite into it, and it paves the way for this ricotta-based custard to make its way on your palate. Inspired by The Godfather’s infamous line, “Leave the gun, take the cannoli,” this pie gives it justice, I tell you.

What movie-inspired treats would you like Lorraine to whip up next? Which one in this list are you most willing to try? Tell us your thoughts with a comment below!
