The Wendy’s Salad Bar is Back, but is It Really That Exciting?

Wendy’s Philippines’ Salad Bar used to be prevalent in their branches until it was phased out in the late nineties. Now, Wendy’s has brought it back to their branches in SM Megamall, EDSA Boni, SM Centerpoint Mall Sta. Mesa, SM North EDSA Annex, Glorietta 4, and Greenfield.

Available at the bar are red jello, green jello, grated cheese, slices of hard-boiled egg, shredded carrots, cucumbers, salad greens, macaroni, potato chunks with bacon bits and caesar, thousand island, and vinaigrette dressing. Ingredients are kept fresh with an in-bar cooling system.

While you can go nuts with what they have, the Salad Bar is only for one serving, with no take-out allowed for the price of PHP 199. That’s a hefty price to pay for a single serve, considering that SRP for a large Goolai salad is around PHP 170 with just as much, if not more, toppings. Wendy’s also has salads on their menu for dine-in and take out in variants of Macaroni, Taco, Chicken Caesar, and Garden, priced at PHP 149 for a big serving, and PHP 49 for a side salad portion. Is PHP 199 really worth it for customizing and stacking up a salad?

Jesus, is there really supposed to be an issue with a P199 stack all you want salad? Nostalgia plays a big role in the relaunch. And the call to greed.

takaw-tingin time… back in the day, I’ve seen my fair share of people stacking a lot of salad items on their plate when they go to the self-serve bar. afterwards, they just leave more than half of the salad they have created uneaten, or just strewn around the table.

Php 199 is indeed steep. However, I’ve seen a lot of people stacking up their plate to the brim and perform amazing balancing acts to bring it to their table without spilling anything, so maybe the price is to make sure they won’t be lugi? Might try this if I have the whole family with me, then it would be sulit! 😀

Wow, that makes Cravings’ unlimited salad and soup bar sound more sulit at 299.

Same as “hehehe” and Nica Angeles below, I used to marvel at how some people were able to create towering monstrosities from the salad bar. I was less than enthusiastic, though, about seeing the food waste that typically followed.

Some people build salad towers just to conquer Wendy’s one-trip, single serve policy. They know they couldn’t finish it. If it’s allowed, I’ll just take the whole macaroni or potato salad pan, probably put a moundful of grated cheese in it. I have no use for the jellos and veggies, just the fun, carby stuff. What amazes me is that people still get their salad fix at Wendy’s? I don’t know any accessible joint other than Wendy’s which offered salad on their menu back in the 90s. We have many, many options now. Anyway, it would be funny to see this monstrosity:

LOL high school memories of building physically stable structures out of salad fixings so that there’s enough food for ten people to share after a single trip to the salad bar (I went to science high school, and this was practical application of our physics lectures).

meron pa ba nito hanggang ngayon ??

okay na sana ang presentation… kaya lang nakuhanan pa ng picture yung nangungulangot na lalaki sa itaas (matabang naka red). eeeeeww.

Natawa naman ako dun sa mga katabi ko sa Wendy’s kanina – one obese lady packed a mountain of salad with almost all in it and then she walked back to her group and shared it to 5 other people. All under they eyes of the crew. Some folks just don’t have etiquettes. This is in their branch in Ruby st, Ortigas.
