We Re-Created a Bento Combo from Adorable Home so You Can Do Something While Waiting for Love

March 3, 2020

It didn’t make sense to us how a game about feeding cats, waiting for your partner to come home, and building bento boxes could be such a hit. That is, until we tried Adorable Home for ourselves. The game’s a true test of patience, with players waiting hours for opportunities to earn love. (This doesn’t apply if you buy love, instead—true both in life and in the game.)

Darling, I’m home!

Well, while waiting, why don’t you do an actual act of self-love by fixing up your own Adorable Home-inspired bento box? We re-created a combo of Seafood Spaghetti, Barbecues, and Strawberry Napoleon. If you’re bored enough, you can even try to copy exactly how it looks like in the app like we did. This won’t give you any currency to buy furniture IRL. But heck, if you play Adorable Home, we’ll bet you have an appreciation for useless things that look pretty.

Adorable Home Bento

  • Serves: 2 people
  • Active time: 2 hrs
  • Total time: 2 hrs
  • Difficulty: Medium

Seafood Spaghetti

  • 4 tbsp. butter
  • 3 tbsp. reserved pasta water
  • 8 pcs. large shrimp/prawns, steamed
  • ½ cup cherry tomatoes
  • ¼ cup fresh basil + more for garnish
  • 200g spaghetti, cooked and drained

  • 6 slices baby potato, steamed
  • 2 slices zucchini
  • 2 slices corn on the cob
  • 2 small shitake mushrooms
  • 2 slices red bell pepper
  • 2 slices green bell pepper
  • 2 slices yellow bell pepper
  • 4 wedges red onion
  • 2 cherry tomatoes

Strawberry Napoleon

  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • ¼ cup cornstarch
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 ¼ cup milk
  • 6 pieces puff pastry, cooked and cut into 2x4inch rectangles
  • 12 slices strawberry
  • 8 slices blackberry
  • Powdered sugar, for garnish

Seafood Spaghetti

  1. For the pasta, heat butter in a skillet until melted, then add pasta water.
  2. Whisk until emulsified then remove from the heat.
  3. Add cooked shrimp, cherry tomatoes, basil, and spaghetti then toss until well combined.
  4. Divide seafood spaghetti amongst the large sections of two bento boxes.

  1. For the barbecues, place potato, zucchini, corn, and shitake mushrooms in a steamer basket and steam until cooked through, about 5 minutes.
  2. Remove from steamer and set aside to cool slightly.
  3. Arrange all ingredients on barbecue sticks, using the Adorable Home drawing as reference.
  4. Divide barbecues amongst the medium sections of two bento boxes.

Strawberry Napoleon

  1. For the Strawberry Napoleon, add sugar and cornstarch to a pot and whisk until combined.
  2. Add in vanilla and milk and whisk until smooth.
  3. Cook mixture for 5 minutes or until extremely thick, then set aside to cool completely.
  4. Layer pastry cream in between pieces of puff pastry, piping the cream in rounds (each napoleon should have 3 layers of puff pastry and cream, starting with the pastry and ending with the cream on top).
  5. Garnish with alternating slices of strawberries and blackberries, then top with powdered sugar.
