Ralph Becker founded Urban Greens in October 2016 with the desire to make farming more sustainable in a country whose crops are threatened yearly by typhoons. Tech enthusiast Becker views hydroponics as a solution to the Philippines’ food insecurity. Urban Greens grows what they call “cleaner, fresher, smarter” greens that are non-GMO and don’t need to rely on vast land space, fertilizers, pesticides, fungicides, and most of all, luck of good weather.
Built on the 2nd floor of The Ruins by Z Hostel, their Urban Greens Z Farm is one of their hubs that you can tour in the afternoons to sample some of their tea. They currently supply to establishments within the Poblacion area, and offer afternoon 3PM tea tours. And if you’re more of a drinker of alcohol than tea, you can also keep an eye on their social media pages for their next lambanog infusion workshop.
