This Milk Tea Shop in Binondo Actually Specializes in Stinky Tofu

July 12, 2019

If it weren’t for its name, everyone would assume that 80 Memories Tofu House was just another neighborhood milk tea shop. But, although people do come for their drinks, the place actually specializes in stinky tofu—a fermented tofu dish typically found in Chinese street food bazaars and night markets.

Despite swimming in sauce, each piece of tofu is crispy on the outside and soft on the inside.

Their version comes in a thick, mildly spicy sauce with lots of vegetables. It’s not as pungent as you’d expect. It’s smell is similar to the mix of aromas you’d find in an Indian restaurant.  The dish is traditionally meant to be eaten as a snack. But pair it with one of 80 Memories’ milk teas and you’ve got yourself a combo that’s filling enough to be a meal (even if you get the smaller size).
