This Kimchi Tuna Melt Brings a Touch of K-Drama to a Comfort Classic

Everyone’s obsessed with K-dramas and all the delicious dishes featured in the shows, but It’s not always easy to get your samgyupsal fix. If you want to taste the same flavors with stuff you can easily find in your own home, or find in any grocery, then we’ve solved the problem for you. We’ve introduced kimchi to an easy-to-make, comforting tuna melt, so that you get the same spicy, pungent kick, but with ingredients that are probably already in your pantry.

What really makes this dish is the gochujang mayonnaise (we’ve used Lady’s Choice here), which binds the tuna and kimchi together. It adds a signature spicy sweetness you can only get from Korean food, and goes perfectly well with the melty, cheesy topping, mimicking that popular Korean fried chicken + cheese sauce pairing. INGREDIENTS

Kimchi Tuna Melt

  • 2 large slices of bread
  • 2 tbsp. olive oil
  • ¼ cup Lady’s Choice Mayonnaise
  • 1 tbsp. gochujang
  • 2 tsp. sesame oil
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 2 cans tuna, drained
  • ¼ cup kimchi, chopped
  • ½ cup red onion, diced
  • ¼ cup spring onions, diced
  • 2 slices cheese

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Preheat oven/toaster oven to broil.
  2. Heat olive oil in a pan then toast the bread on one side until well browned.
  3. Remove from pan then set aside.
  4. In a bowl, whisk together Lady’s Choice Mayonnaise, gochujang, and sesame oil until well combined.
  5. Season with salt and pepper, to taste.
  6. In a large bowl, add the tuna, kimchi, red onion, and spring onions.
  7. Stir until well combined, then pour over the mayonnaise mixture.
  8. Stir all ingredients together carefully until well combined and coated.
  9. Take the tuna salad mixture and divide equally between the slices of bread, placing it on the side of the bread that is not toasted.
  10. Add the slices of cheese over the tuna salad then place the sandwiches onto a baking tray.
  11. Place into the preheated oven and heat until cheese is melted and bubbly.
  12. Serve immediately.
