The concept of a purely halal eatery might be foreign to some, but the main difference is that the meat is prepared in accordance with Islamic dietary laws. There are plenty tucked into Quiapo’s popular Muslim district in between rows of colorful shops, but Moud Halal stands out for its impeccable roast chicken. The nondescript place is truly hidden, only marked by a rotating spit out front that displays the roasting birds. Each chicken clocks in at around PHP120 per kilo, but they come in meals too, accompanied by bright yellow kabsa rice. They’r pretty remarkable, tasting full of spice, and is dipped into a slightly fiery sauce of chopped chilis.
While the chicken is the standout here, there are other bites you can dig into, like sambusak, a fried pastry filled with either beef or tuna.
