This 24-Hour Halal Carinderia Serves Traditional Zamboangan Cuisine

April 3, 2019

Dulang is a halal restaurant that serves viands for as low as PHP55, and some priced at PHP75. Each serving is good for one person. A lot of the dishes, we must warn you, are on the spicy side so do ask before you decide if you have low tolerance for heat. As it is a halal restaurant, you won’t find any pork in here, but you will find a vast array of dishes to pick from, ranging from the comforting to the adventurous.

Our favorite dish that we tried is the traditional Zamboangan Payanggang Manok (or burnt coconut chicken), which has a deep toasty flavor, a rich sauce that you can smother all over your rice, and a spice-inflected aftertaste that you feel in your nose. For the more daring, you can try pagi or stingray.

Bea Osmeña is a healthy-ish eater who is just as likely to take you to a vegan joint as she is to consume a whole cheese pie to herself. A former picky eater, Bea has discovered the joys of savory fruit dishes, but still refuses to accept pineapples on her pizza. On the rare occasion you catch her without food in her mouth, you are likely to find her looking at books she can't afford, hugging trees, or talking to strange animals on the street.
