These Five Ham Recipes Will Take You Around The Globe

Swiss: Apple Mac and Cheese

Apple in macaroni and cheese might sound a little too far left field, but trust us when we say the crisp juiciness of the fruit paired with the sweetness of the ham adds something entirely new and delicious to this typical cheesy pasta.

Yield: 4 servings | Time: 45 minutes

Ingredients

  • 250g CDO Sweet Ham, cut into small cubes
  • 1 tbsp. oil
  • 1 cup potatoes, cut into small cubes
  • 1 red apple, cut into small cubes
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 2 tbsp. flour
  • 1 1/2 cups full milk
  • 1 1/2 cups water
  • 250g elbow macaroni
  • 1/2 cup cheddar cheese, grated
  • 1 cup Monterey jack cheese, grated
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Method

  1. In a large skillet over medium heat, add the oil.
  2. Saute the potatoes and red apple until softened and browned, about 10 minutes.
  3. Add the CDO Sweet Ham and continue to cook until the ham has browned, about 5 minutes more.
  4. Remove pan from heat and set aside.
  5. To make the macaroni, in a large (preferably oven safe) pot or skillet over medium-high heat, heat the butter until just melted.
  6. Add the flour and whisk, cooking for 3 minutes or until the butter has slightly thickened.
  7. Add the milk and water to the pot, stirring continuously to ensure no lumps form.
  8. Add the pasta and cook, stirring continuously, for about 6-8 minutes, or until the noodles are just al dente and almost all of the liquid has been absorbed.
  9. Turn off the heat and add in all of the cheese and the potato, apple, and CDO Sweet Ham mixture.
  10. Stir until all the cheese has melted and season with salt and pepper to taste before serving.

Hawaiian: Ham Musubi Bake

Sushi bakes might be everywhere, and we think it’s about time for a meaty take on the trend. Add ham to turn sushi bake into a musubi one, with Hawaiian sauces like teriyaki and mayo to make it even more indulgent.

Yield: 4 servings | Time: 30 minutes

Ingredients

  • 250g CDO Sweet Ham, cut into squares
  • 1/2 cup Japanese mayonnaise
  • 1/2 cup cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup teriyaki sauce
  • 4 cups cooked white rice
  • 4 tbsp. furikake or crushed nori, divided
  • Nori sheets, for serving

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to broil setting or 450F.
  2. In a large bowl, mix together the mayonnaise, cream cheese, and teriyaki sauce until smooth and well combined.
  3. Add the CDO Sweet Ham and toss until well coated. Set aside.
  4. In an oven safe baking dish, add the rice and flatten into one even layer.
  5. Sprinkle half of the furikake or nori over the rice, then evenly spread all of the CDO Sweet Ham mixture on top, covering the rice completely.
  6. Place the dish into the preheated oven and bake for 8-10 minutes or until the top is bubbling and well browned.
  7. Remove from the oven and sprinkle with remaining furikake or nori before serving with more nori sheets.

Korean: Budae Jjigae/Army Base Stew

One of Korea’s most popular stews is this sweet and spicy hodge podge pot. Ham may be the star, but all you need is some gochujang and kimchi to immediately transport yourself to Seoul with this steaming bowl.

Yield: 4-6 servings | Time: 30 minutes

Ingredients

  • 250g CDO Sweet Ham
  • 1/4 cup gochujang
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 tbsp. soy sauce
  • 1/2 tbsp. brown sugar
  • 250g vermicelli noodles
  • 1 cup carrots, sliced
  • 1 cup cabbage, sliced
  • 1 cup/package enoki mushrooms (or mushroom of your choice)
  • 1/2 kimchi

Method

  1. In a bowl, mix together gochujang, garlic, soy sauce, and brown sugar until well combined. Set aside.
  2. In a large shallow pot, arrange the vermicelli noodles, carrots, cabbage, mushrooms, kimchi, and CDO Sweet Ham.
  3. Add the gochujang mixture to the pan, then serve at a table over a burner set to medium heat.
  4. Pour over 4 cups of water then allow the water to boil, stirring the ingredients to cook evenly.

Mexican: Ham Fajitas

Missing  your favorite Tex-Mex restaurant? Make thinly sliced sweet ham your protein of choice when building your bell pepper and meat tortilla.

Yield: 4 servings | Time: 30 minutes

Ingredients

  • 250g CDO Sweet ham, cut into strips
  • 1 tbsp. oil
  • 1 cup red bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup green bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 1 tbsp. taco seasoning
  • Tortillas, for serving
  • Sour cream, for serving

Method

  1. In a large skillet over medium heat, add the oil.
  2. Saute red bell peppers, green bell peppers, and CDO Sweet Ham until peppers have softened and ham has browned, about 8-10 minutes.
  3. Add the taco seasoning and toss until everything is well coated.
  4. Serve the ham fajitas with tortillas and sour cream on the side.

French: Bechamel Ham and Cheese Sandwich

If you’re in the mood for a sandwich, there’s nothing more decadent than a French bechamel ham and cheese sandwich. The thick, rich sauce is especially delicious with the glazed ham that’s nestled neatly in between your toasted slices.

Yield: 2 servings | Time: 30 minutes

Ingredients

  • 250g CDO Sweet Ham
  • 1 tbsp. butter
  • 1 tbsp. flour
  • 1 cups milk
  • 2 tbsp. grainy mustard
  • 1/2 cup white cheddar cheese, grated
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 4 slices bread, toasted

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to broil setting or 450F.
  2. In a pot over medium heat, add butter and cook until melted.
  3. Add the flour and whisk, cooking for 3 minutes.
  4. Add the milk while whisking constantly, avoiding lumps.
  5. Add the mustard, salt, pepper, and cheese.
  6. Cook until sauce is thickened and cheese has melted, about 4-5 minutes more.
  7. Remove from heat and let cool for 5 minutes.
  8. Place 4 slices of toasted bread on a baking sheet and spread sauce over each piece until just covered.
  9. Divide the slices of ham evenly between two of the pieces of bread, then top with the remaining bread sauce side down to create 2 sandwiches.
  10. Spoon more sauce over the 2 sandwiches.
  11. Place under a broiler until browned and bubbling, about 5-8 minutes.
  12. Remove from the oven and serve immediately.
