Morir Soñando Is Already like a Grown-Up Orange Julius, but We Spiked It Anyway (And Made It with Mango)

April 17, 2020

It’s our birthday! To celebrate, we’ve rounded up the team’s favorite childhood birthday food, and updated them to 2020; and we’re sharing them to you throughout the month.

As a kid, our chef Kimmie used to love Orange Julius’ orange julius. That is, American beverage chain Orange Julius‘ famous drink, which is also called orange julius. It’s basically just a blend of orange juice (or concentrate), milk, vanilla, sugar, and ice. So for her Pepper birthday recipe, Kimmie made a grown-up version. And on that note, we’re not calling it orange julius anymore. It’s now Morir Soñando, based on the Latin American drink, which is basically made up of the same things orange julius is.

This recipe swaps out oranges for mangoes, which is more widely available here (and is Kimmie’s favorite fruit). We’ve also snuck in a shot of rum in there, because—frankly—why the hell not? You can mix it in the drink, or drink it as a shot. You do you.
