Nanbantei has earned itself something of being an OG for making yakitori-style Japanese restaurants accessible and popular around Manila, with 5 branches spread out across the Metro. The brand has been in the Philippines for 20 years this year, but first opened up in Roponggi about 40 years ago. The relaxed dining atmosphere and affordable prices makes it a reliable and always-welcome dining option, that can sometimes escalate into a casual night of drinking when sake gets involved.
When eating in groups, it’s smart and safe to order one of their platters and sets, but when you know what you want (like we do), we feel it’s best to avoid having unwanted leftovers and just sticking to your favorites. We’d suggest the Tebasaki (chicken wings), Pork Garlic Yaki, and the Kawa (chicken skin), but the beauty of yakitori is the small servings that allow you to try a little bit of everything, so run wild.
