Recipe Rewind: Healthy and Delicious Salads to Help You Reach Your Beach Body Dreams

Okay, I confess, that headline is a lie. While summer is just around the corner, and everyone is scrambling to get back into 2-piece bikini shape (or low-waist boardshort shape for the dudes), these salads won’t help you reach that goal at all. These are the types of recipes that involve stuff like sisig, bacon, chorizo, and a ton of cheese—things that do not exactly fit under the diet food category.

They all do taste pretty delicious, though, so I’m sure you’ll forgive me for jerking your chain.

Nag-Salad Ka Pa


Generous portions of deep-fried sisig serve as the main meat of this salad imposter, sprinkled with fatty bits of chicharon and topped off with long crispy bacon strips (why go for bacon bits when you can have bacon strips?). But wait a minute! Before you start assuming that we went overboard like we always do and used a creamy, cheesy dressing…we didn’t. Ha! We kept that low-fat vinaigrette cause we’re watching our figure, too.

Food Hack: Cyma’s Roka Salata


Humility aside, we honestly got a 100% Hackability on this one. Fine, maybe 99% if Cyma gets their ingredients from some obscure, expensive, and hipster supplier (or Mount Olympus). Luckily for you and me, the ingredients here came from regular, local groceries.

Chorizo & Egg Salad


If you don’t frequent dingy Chinese restaurants and instinctively order Yang Chow fried rice, chances are, you haven’t seen a whole Chinese chorizo. For the old Chinese, this little sausage is their bacon—fatty, cured, and food-colored red. Not surprisingly, like bacon, it mixes pretty well with greens and eggs.
