Recipe Rewind: Fake Twix, Peanut Butter Cups, and Cookie Butter

April 25, 2019

While a lot of the imported sweet treats we love from the grocery are a bit unhealthy, we still can’t help buying a few dozen packs whenever we pass by Shopwise or S&R. Too bad it’s a habit that can get a little expensive to maintain. Fortunately, we’ve whipped up some home-made approximations that are not only cheaper, but we also honestly like them better than the real things.

Fake Twix

This attempt aims to recreate everyone’s favorite cookie bar using the simplest ingredients lying around in your fridge and pantry. What’s great about these Fake Twix bars is that you can adjust the thickness of the biscuit, depending on your preference. We used a square 8x8x2 pan, but you can go for something rectangular, just so that your bars won’t be as thick.

Homemade Peanut Butter Cups

Apart from doing away with the ingredients only a chemistry graduate could recognize (or pronounce), making your own peanut butter cups leaves so much room for personalization and creativity. If you’ve always been more partial to the sweeter local PB, then go ahead and use Lily’s. If you’re the clean living type, feel free to use the all-natural, organic variety. You can even use other nut butters like almond or hazelnut. If you’re tired of searching high and low for the white chocolate Reese’s you see on your friends’ Instagram, now you can make some of your own.

Lengua de Gato Cookie Butter

While I think this Lengua de Gato cookie butter tastes amazing on fresh baked pandesal coupled with a mug of authentic tsokolate by its side, I’m sure it’d be pretty stellar on lots of other things as well. Use it in your cupcakes, your milkshakes, even as a flavor base for homemade ice cream, the possibilities are limitless. Enjoy!
