PSA: Haw Flakes Still Exist—and Here They Are in a Cocktail

June 25, 2019

Many of our childhood memories revolve around food, i.e. eating Milo powder out of the packet, going through a fast food chain drive-thru after school, having mom’s spaghetti during birthday parties, etc. So it’s not unusual that we get excited when we encounter the snacks we loved as kids, especially when they come in versions that our more mature tongues—and salary-backed wallets—can appreciate.

Haw haw de carabao.

Enter this sweet, slightly fizzy tequila-based drink made with one of our favorite Chinese candies: haw flakes. (We know you pretended they were sacramental bread once upon a time!) The red discs are melted into a syrup which you can also mix into another liquor of choice. You can even use it in making (alcohol-infused?) desserts.
