There’s More to Ukkokei than just Ramen in Today’s Pepper Eats

October 23, 2018

Pepper Eats is our weekly photo-journal featuring the food we stuffed in our mouths.

Red Nuea (Beef) Curry from My Thai Kitchen (PHP 295)

Adee says: “When I order a red curry, I expect it to be reddish and very spicy. Sadly, this one isn’t any of those. On my Spice Girls Heat Level rating, it’s a measly Baby Spice.”

Diner’s Rating: 6.5/10

Grilled Cheese Sandwich, Tomato Soup, and Green Salad from Wildflour (PHP 390)

Katrina says: “An excellent execution of a classic combination. The soup is full-on bright tomato flavor, although it could use a touch more cream or milk to balance our the acidity. As for the sandwich, the bread is perfectly toasted and the generous helping of caramelized onions provides great contrast against the gooey, velvety cheese.”

Diner’s Rating: 7.5/10

2-pc Pan Chicken from Pancake House (PHP 186)

Nico says: “They must put crack in the chicken coz it’s addictive as hell.”

Diner’s rating: 9/10

Abura Soba from Ukkokei (PHP 340)

Mikka says: “I’m not one to gush over Ukkokei’s Ramen (save for their Tan Tan Mien), but this noodle dish is noteworthy. Lightly doused with spring onion oil and topped with meat and bean sprouts, this is a good alternative if you want to take a break from the soupy stuff.”

Diner’s rating: 7/10

Lemon & Herb Chicken Peri-Peri from Nando’s, Kuala Lumpur (PHP 230 for 1/4 Chicken)

Addi says: “It’s either I’m too easy to please or this is the best chicken sauce I’ve ever had. Either way, this is the best chicken sauce I’ve ever had. PS. This is the least spicy of all the choices, hence the flag of judgment.”

Diner’s Rating: 9/10

Tombstone from Zark’s (PHP 500)

Lars says: “The burger won.”

Diner’s rating: 8/10

Haemul Gungjung Mandu  from Bulgogi Brothers (PHP 450 for 6 pcs, PHP 675 for 10 pcs)

Diana says: “This fried seafood dumpling looks pretty standard, but I’d take home bottles of this spicy and tart mystery sauce.”

Diner’s rating: 7/10

Salted Caramel Cupcake from FlourGirl (PHP 75)

Giselle says: “Pretty disappointing; Frosting fell apart, and cake was dense.”

Diner’s rating: 4/10

Linguine alla Ghiotta from Cibo (PHP 298)

Serna says: “It’s basically carbonara without the egg yolk, so you can stuff your face with it and not feel too bad after.”

Diner’s rating: 8/10

Pepper Eats, i missed you! *squee*

Nando’s has been my run-to comfort food here in KL. I just discovered their chicken strips with rice is the best ever–especially when you’re stressed with work and you did not have time to eat during the day…v.v
