A UP Classic Takes the Spotlight in Today’s Pepper Eats

October 19, 2018

Pepper Eats is our weekly photo-journal featuring the food we stuffed in our mouths.

Roast Pumpkin Wrap from Juju Eats (PHP 180)

Giselle says: “It seemed overpriced so I didn’t want to like it. But despite the over-acidity of some bites, I really did like it, and I think it’s worth coming back for.”

Diner’s rating: 7.5/10

Panna Sausage Pizza from Gino’s Brick Oven Pizza (PHP 290)

Katrina says: “Delicious homemade sausage, a generous helping of cheese and fresh-tasting tomato sauce make for good pizza. But what makes this pizza great is the crust: crisp on the outside but perfectly chewy (not doughy, mind you) inside.”

Rating: 8/10

Siomai Meal from the UP FA Foodstall (PHP 80 for 2 cups of rice and 12 pcs of siomai)

Lars says: “A classic.”

Diner’s Rating: 10/10

Spicy Tuna Sashimi from Sakura (PHP 205)

Mikka says: “The only kind of sashimi that I will ever happily place inside my mouth.”

Diner’s Rating: 12/10

Stamina Ramen (PHP 168) + Chashu (PHP 15/slice) from Tamagoya Noodle House

Nico says: “The broth was the right amount of savory and spicy, and the pork was great, too! Reports of its stamina boosting properties to follow.”

Diner’s rating: 9/10

Sago Gula Melaka from Boon Tong Kee (PHP 145)

Serna says: “Tapioca pearls in a sweet syrup topped with vanilla ice cream. It’s basically our local taho without the taho, but I’d take vanilla ice cream over cold bean curd any day.”

Diner’s rating: 8/10

3 Pieces Drummets w/ Rice from Purefoods Crisp n’ Juicy (PHP 49)

Adee says: “Large Chicken Nuggets. What’s not to like? *cough Gravy cough sucks cough*”

Diner’s rating: 6.5/10

Mango Tart from Conti’s Bakeshop (PHP 80)

Diana says: “It tastes like the Mango Bravo’s less attractive sibling.”

Diner’s rating: 7/10

Nasi Lemak Ayam from Central Market, Kuala Lumpur (MYR 8.50, around PHP 116)

Nasi Lemak

Addi says: “Flavor on flavor on flavor. One of the best non-Filipino Asian meals I’ve had. It’s Malaysia on a plate.”

Diner’s rating: 10/10

Have you had Arki siomai yet? They put quail eggs in ’em! And you can have them fried!! I know FA siomai is a classic but I think Arki siomai could give it a run for its money. 😀

FA siomai forevs! :)) I use the soy sauce they use for tokwa.
My labmates and I would have “siomai wars” every now and then! We’d each order more than 25 pieces of siomai.
