Today on Pepper Eats: We’ve Got Some Foie with Eggs and Cebu Lechon

April 21, 2019

Shakey’s Special from Shakey’s (regular, thin crust; PHP 249)

Location: SM Southmall

Gela says: “From take out/delivery dinners when mama was lazy, Easter or any excuse for a family gathering, house party grub, to barkada dinners, and today, while dealing with pregnant-like hunger. I feel no shame eating the entire box by myself. That was part of the plan. ”

Rating: 9/10 (only because I ate it too fast from my enthusiasm)

Hirin Brizola (Grilled Pork Chops) from Cyma (PHP 495)

Location: Eastwood City Mall

Lars says: *inarticulate moaning noises*

Rating: 8/10

Eggs en Cocotte with Foie Gras and Portobello from Lusso (PHP 375)

Location: G/F Greenbelt 5

Pam says: “I love Lusso. I love eggs. I love foie. This was amazing, although this time around the eggs were not as wet, and runny. Still perfectly seasoned, still sinful. Don’t forget to ask for some of their cambozola cream to pour all over the dish. Crazy.”

Rating: 9/10

Prime Rib Tapa from Maple (PHP 520)

Location: LG/F Shangri-la Plaza Mall, East Wing

Mikka says: “I believe this cut had 80% fat in it, and the meat was gummy and tough to slice. This one was so different from the Prime Rib Tapa I had in their San Antonio Plaza branch. Sad face.”

Rating: 4/10

Cebu Lechon from Ayer’s (PHP 500 per kilo)

Location: Outside the Departure Area of Mactan Airport

Nico says: “The pig was already salted and seasoned perfectly, making sarsa unnecessary. If you can’t do without a dip, then sukang pinakurat is highly recommended. The next time you’re in Cebu, skip the dried mangoes and “I love Cebu” shirts and buy a kilo or five of this. They come in convenient takeaway boxes you can hand carry to the plane, or even pig out on while waiting for your delayed flight.”

Rating: 9.5/10

Langostinos a la Bella Molinera from Casino Español de Manila (PHP 700)

Location: 855 Teodoro M. Kalaw St., Ermita, Manila

Serna says: “The fresh prawns were cooked perfectly, their expertly-seasoned flesh pleasantly springy after each bite. The spaghetti noodles were a little overcooked but they must have been having an off-day since I’ve had this dish many times in the past and this was the first time it happened. A quick saute in a bit of olive oil with onions, carrots, green beans and ham did the mushy pasta a lot of favors, however. The whole dish was rounded out beautifully with a squeeze of lemon juice.”

Rating: 9/10

Way to go Gela! 🙂 And those porkchops, drool!

First time in Cyma, we ordered Pastitsio for our then-toddler (who, I’m proud to say, has a healthy appetite for all kinds of things 😀 ). It was really good, but she didn’t finish it because the serving size was huge! Can’t remember what the husband ate, but I had their Fillet Mignon. Great stuff, too, although I didn’t enjoy the stuffed peppers that much. 🙂
