Today on Pepper Eats: Ultimate Noodles and Pavlova from Recess

April 19, 2019

Limone Santi from Café Mary Grace (PHP 110)

Location: Robinsons Manila

Gela says: “The Limone Santi is like a chill night with a good friend; moments are effortlessly worth savoring but there is no apprehensions in talking about the difficult stuff. The slice wasn’t crazy big, so the serving let me enjoy the sweet and sour balance.”

Rating: 10/10

Buttermilk Fried Chicken from Kettle (PHP 519)

Location: East Wing, Shangri-La Mall

Kat says: “Crispy, tasty skin and juicy, non-greasy meat, Kettle’s buttermilk fried chicken is one of the few things that live up to the hype. If only the meat was a little bit more flavorful, and they served more gravy than that tiny tin cup (this is the country where gravy is served in pitchers, after all), this would be a ten.”

Rating: 8.5/10

Ultimate Noodles from North Park (PHP 253)

Location: Araneta Center, Cubao

Lars says: “Lives up to its name.”

Rating: 8/10

Salted Duck and Taosi Claypot Rice from Eat Fresh (PHP 165)

Location: J. Abad Santos Street, San Juan City

Mia: “It’s definitely salty but I think it only had one piece of duck in there. An overall ‘meh, nothing special’ with this dish. I should have stuck to their noodles or street food on a stick.”

Rating: 3.5/10

Pavlova from Recess by Chef Chris (PHP 330)

Location: Jupiter Street, Makati

Mikka says: “Not a fan of meringue, but this baby changed my mind.”

Rating: 9/10

Eggplant Poque-Poque from Tootsies (PHP 136)

Location: Tagaytay

Nico says: “It didn’t feel or taste like it betrayed the original dish. I still got the smoky flavor from the grilled eggplant, and the creamy and smooth texture from the eggs. Also, it had crispness but it didn’t feel too greasy whenever I bit into it. One odd thing though is the price, as it will forever perplex me when restaurants don’t use multiples of 5 for prices.”

Rating: 6.8/10

Fried Mac and Cheese from T.G.I. Friday’s (PHP 355)

3/F Glorietta 3, Makati

Serna says: “Macaroni and cheese on its own is comfort food personified, but when you roll chunks of it in a breading mixture and deep-fry the lot to a crisp, it becomes something else entirely.”

Rating: 11/10

The only claypot dish I like from Eat Fresh is the beef curry. Then again, I only go there for the Laksa and street food. Can’t go wrong with those two. 🙂
