Dessert Wins in Today’s Pepper Eats

October 2, 2018

Pepper Eats is our weekly photo-journal featuring the food we stuffed in our mouth.

Banoffee Pie from Banapple (Php 95/slice)

Addi

Addi says: “Define comfort food.”

Diner’s rating: 8.5/10

Dumpling Laksa from Pao Tsin (Php 60)

Adee

Adee says: “It’s a lot like what Nissin is to real ramen; cheap, salty, and tastes nothing like the real thing. But it’s still somewhat satisfying if you’re hungry enough, especially if you’ve never tasted legit Laksa.”

Diner’s rating: 6/10

Spinach with Shitake Cream Pasta with ¼ Roast Chicken from Brown’s Gourmet Chicken (Php 235)

Diana

Diana says: “The pasta sauce is light but creamy and the chicken is tasty although a bit dry for my liking. The chicken comes with a concoction of vinegar and chili flakes, which is not your usual companion to roast chicken but they work really well together.”

Diner’s rating: 7/10

Canonigo with Mango Balls from Cafe Adriatico (Php 110)

Giselle

Giselle says: “Fluffy enough to fool you into thinking it’s a light dessert, but it was too sweet for my liking.”

Diner’s rating: 6/10

Onion Rings from Burger Bar (Php 80)

Kat Iriberri

Kat Iriberri says: “Onions in the perfect size and thickness, a light and crispy batter and a subtle dusting of barbecue powder make for an addictive accompaniment to a burger. Or a beer. Or, ideally, both.”

Diner’s rating: 9.5/10

European Wiener Hoagie from Forte (Php 175)

Lars

Lars says: “This sandwich is a real wiener.”

Diner’s Rating: 7.7/10

Choco-fudge and Macadamia Nut Brownie with Malted Milk Ice Cream from Sala Bistro (Php 290)

Nico

Nico says: “If I had a soul to sell, I’d do it just to get this everyday with every meal I have. Stop reading this, and get it NOW.”

Diner’s rating: 12/10

Framboisier from Antoinette Patisserie, Singapore (SGD8.50, about Php 282.45)

Serna

Serna says: “Antoinette’s take on cheesecake. I’m probably the only person in the world who isn’t crazy about graham cracker pie crusts, so I loved that they had a soft sponge finger as the base. The graham cracker element was in the sand-colored cubes atop the thick raspberry gelee, so it wasn’t obtrusive. The Framboisier is almost too pretty to eat. Almost.”

Diner’s rating: 11/10

Best Kept C-cret from Fleur de Lys Patisserie (Php 115/slice)

Steph

Steph says: “It’s a nice and unusual take on the usual vanilla chiffon cake. Despite its heavy appearance, it’s light and not too sweet.”

Diner’s rating: 7/10

Garashi Kabab from Hassan Kabab & Steaks (Php 270)

Kat Jao says: “You get value for money with this dish. The meat had the right tenderness and they were very flavorful.”

Diner’s rating: 8/10

Apple Pie from Mary Grace (Php 97/slice)

Mikka says: “If I had a Grandma who baked pie, this is how I envision it to taste like! The buttery crust melts in my mouth and apples are stewed just right.”

Diner’s rating: 8.5/10

Reuben Half-Slab from Chuck’s Deli (Php 355)

chucks-deli-reuben

Dwight says: “Why didn’t Jesus multiply Chuck’s Deli’s ciabatta when he had the chance? And why fish instead of corned beef?”

Diner’s rating: 9/10

Korean Appetizers from Sariwon (Free!)

Mye's Korean Appetizers

Mylene says: “I’d probably bring 3 large tupperwares during my next visit to hoard these tasty free appetizers from Sariwon! My favorite dish there though is actually their Deung Sim Bulgogi, but I dug in so fast i forgot to take a picture.”

Diner’s rating: 10/10

  1. Mikka! Mary Grace’s Apple Pie tastes so much better (and more sinful) with vanilla ice cream!

  2. Craving for that Garashi Kabab! Hassan is one of my favorite places to go for a midnight snack. 🙂
