Today on Pepper Eats: Bagels, Crepes, and Deep-Dish Pizza

Savoyarde from La Creperie (Lower Plate) (PHP 395)

Processed with VSCOcam with f2 preset

Location: Esteban Abada St., Katipunan, Quezon City

Addi says: “It was like eating a sparsely-topped thin-crust pizza. I was surprised how filling the dish was, however. The toppings were huge and really yummy, especially the pickles and the raclette cheese.”

Rating: 7.8/10

Chicago Deep Dish Pizza from Sbarro (PHP 179)

Processed with VSCOcam with m5 preset

Location: Robinson’s Magnolia

Adee says: “Not as delicious as it used to be, but it’s still a good deal. It’s a meal in itself if you don’t have a man sized appetite.”

Rating: 6.8/10

T-bone steak from Snackaroo (PHP 150)

Location: Judge Jimenez, Kamuning, QC

Diana says: “It’s a decent steak for the price if you can stand smelling like meat for the next five hours.”

Rating: 7/10

Plain Bagel with Apple Cinnamon Cream Cheese from LES Bagels (PHP 180)

Processed with VSCOcam with f2 preset

Location: Tuscany Estates, McKinley Hill

Kat says: “The bagel is doughy, chewy, and is probably the best to be had in Manila. They’re very generous with the schmear, there’s about half an inch of the stuff in between the bagel slices. The sweet apple and cinnamon works very well with the subtle saltiness and tanginess of the cream cheese. If I had to nitpick, though, I wish they were more generous with the apple pieces in the spread.”

Rating: 7.5/10

Taosi Spareribs Rice Topping from Luk Yuen (PHP 185)

Location: Greenhills

Lars says: “Always been a Le Ching guy for cheapo Greenhills Chinese food, and I feel like I’m betraying my childhood by admitting that Luk Yuen just might be better.”

Rating: 8/10

Shabu-Shabu Spaghetti with Boiled Pork and Japanese Vegetables from Yomenya Goemon (PHP 295)

Processed with VSCOcam with f2 preset

Location: Greenbelt 3

Mikka says: “Saw this from Serna’s previous Pepper Eats, and I knew I had to try it. For a pasta dish, it’s surprisingly light. The broth is great and has a lot of umami flavor, and the pork is melt-in-your-mouth soft. I thought that the arugula was also a nice and earthy surprise.”

Rating: 9/10

Beef Belly Meal from Bar-B-King (PHP 165)

Nico says: “The whole point of a grilled/roasted beef belly is its addictive contrast of fat and tender meat, all wrapped up in a smoky and charred crust. And this dish had it all. Except for the fat, and smoky and charred crust, that is. It tasted more like nilagang baka that spent a minute on the grill.”

Rating: 5/10

Coscia D’Agnello from Carpaccio Ristorante Italiano (PHP 790)

Location: Yakal Street, San Antonio Village, Makati

Serna says: “The lamb was meltingly tender and perfectly seasoned, with the wine-laced sauce and the mint jelly providing a rich, zesty counterpoint. The side dish of saffron risotto was a little flat, but that didn’t stop me from sneaking mounds of it (along with forkfuls of lamb) off my boyfriend’s plate.”

Rating: 9/10
