We’ve Got Eggs Ben, Baby Back Ribs and Burgers with Mac n’ Cheese in Today’s Pepper Eats

Eggs Benedict from TWG (PHP 420)

Processed with VSCOcam with f2 preset

Location: East Wing, Shangri-La Plaza Mall

Addi says: “I get it. It’s the smoked salmon, English corn flake muffins, perfectly poached farmhouse eggs, and the uber soshal brand and presentation that make this dish expensive. But it’s still pretentious chick food I’d only recommend if there are no restaurants around serving less expensive and a lot tastier food. I’d go back to TWG for their tea and desserts, but not for this or the rest of their overpriced entrees.”

Rating: 5/10

Happiness Ramen (Full Slab) from Hanamaruken (PHP 480)

Location: 2/F Trinoma Garden Restaurants

Adee says: “As a guy who prefers thick, shio flavored tonkotsu, I wasn’t a fan of the soup. But the real star of this bowl is that big cut of rib. It’s splendid. Super soft and packed with flavor, you really get your money’s worth with this. The noodles had the right firmness, and are a pleasure to munch with the tender meat.”

Rating: 8/10

Special Lomi from Brader Louie’s Lomi House (PHP 45)

Location: P. Zamora St., Batangas City

Diana says: This Batangas specialty is thicker than most lomi and is brimming full with toppings like pork liver, kikiam, meatballs, and chicharon. The soup was kind of bland but I making your own sauce from the soy sauce, calamansi, sibuyas, and siling labuyo is part of the overall experience.

Rating: 8/10

Chicken Chop from ChaTime (PHP 85)

Processed with VSCOcam with p5 preset

Location: SM Megamall

Kat says: “This has no business being this delicious at that price. But it is. Crispy breading and juicy, well-seasoned meat. Loads better than the Taiwanese chicken chops available in some restaurants.”

Rating: 9/10

Tapa Queen from Tapa King (PHP 130)

Location: Jupiter Street, Makati

Lars says: “Is it sexist that the female Tapa of the royal Tapa family is the only one that’s spicy?”

Rating: 7.56/10

Call the Nurse from Burgers & Brewskies (PHP 280)

Location: Burgos Circle, Fort Bonifacio

Mikka says: “Overwhelming at a glance (dude it’s got a seared slab of Mac N’ Cheese), this riff of a cheeseburger is by far the one I enjoyed the most in B&B. I believe a good burger is defined by the mess you make after biting into it, and my burger’s meaty juices were dripping down my chin and onto the tray. Not the best place for a first date, but the perfect one for longtime couples who’ve accepted each other and don’t give a damn about ugly eating.”

Rating: 8.8/10

Baby Back Ribs from Almon Marina (PHP 245)

Location: SM Megamall

Nico says: “In a perfect world, all of us would live next door to an Almon Marina. Dishes like this one make you feel like you have a loving grandma always around to take care of you and keep you nice and fat.”

Rating: 7/10

Takoyaki from IMC Kavino (PHP 388)

Location: G/F, Jupiter Place, 136 Jupiter St., Bel-Air, Makati

Serna says: “This ain’t your grandma’s takoyaki. Fresh lettuce cups containing giant cuttlefish balls are generously drizzled with Japanese mayonnaise and takoyaki sauce. A sprinkling of chopped green onions and bonito flakes add both crunch and zing to this appetizer. Four of these on a plate would have made a very good entree for me, though.”

Rating: 11/10

For some reason, a different set of balls comes to mind when you mention that. :)))

i was going to ask if they also have regular sized cuttlefish balls. 🙂 haha. kidding aside, i love takoyaki, with an 11/10 that one is a definite must-try.

  5. Tina A says:

The takoyaki at IMC Kavino is so good. Best thing there, I think!

In my opinion the chicken chops is a bit too salty (makes me eat 2 servings of their rice, ugh), so I prefer the chicken chops sandwich because it’s got greens and some identified sauce (mayo?). I love it. I crave for it when I don’t like the ulam at home. Hahahaha!
