Today on Pepper Eats: Here’s What We Think of KFC’s Crispy Butter Chicken

January 19, 2019

Braised Beef Noodle Soup from Lami Lami (PHP 119)

Nico

Location: 999 Mall, Binondo

Addi says: “For the price, this dish was such a great bargain: huge serving, hand-pulled noodles (the chef was making them right at the counter), generous chunks of sweet, tender beef, and soft fried potatoes, all in a mildly spicy broth. Best decision I made that day.”

Rating: 7.5/10

Crab Tortelloni from Va Bene Pasta Deli (PHP 490)

Adee

Location: 2nd floor, Petron Gas Station, Edsa corner Pasay Road

Adee says: “Loved every morsel of this. Everything tastes so fresh. I dream about it constantly.”

Rating: 9.2/10

Crispy Butter Chicken from KFC (PHP 99)

dIANA

Location: Mendiola, Manila

Diana says: “I don’t know if it’s just me but mine tasted like burnt garlic. I’d still choose the original recipe in a heartbeat.”

Rating: 5/10

Goi Ga from Bawai’s Vietnamese Kitchen (PHP 315)

Bawai

Location: Bellitudo Lifestyle Strip, White Plains, Q.C.

Kat says: “This salad tastes as fresh, light and bright as it looks. There’s so much lovely contrast, too. The crisp cabbage, tender chicken and crunchy peanuts cover the bases in the texture department, while the herbs and the caramel-vinegar glaze all get together for a flavor party in your mouth.”

Rating: 9/10

Cheesy Bacon Mushroom Champ from Jollibee (PHP 129)

larsburger

Location: One tricycle ride from wherever you are.

Lars says: “The burger was fine. (It was more than fine really, it was a solid 6.4-7/10. BUT, I also paid an additional PHP 95 for a Mjolnir USB stick…which didn’t work. Tried it on a mac, on a windows machine, even tried to reformat it from the command line and nothing took. Also, tweeted the Jollibee twitter account about my problem and was ignored. So yeah, Jollibee, make this right! All I want is a functional Thor hammer that I can stash Arrow episodes in, is that so wrong?”

Rating: -2/10 because of the broken Thor USB (which wasn’t free!)

Crispy Butter Chicken Meal from KFC (PHP 99)

Mikka

Location: The Philippines

Mikka says: “It’s like Potato Corner decided to take over these chickens. Deep-fried and dusted with salty-sweet butter-flavored powder. The Butter Rice that came with it reminded me of a pilaf, which complemented the crunchy chicken well. The corn on the mashed potatoes was a nice attempt to tie in the whole butter theme together. But personally, I’d still go for the Original Recipe.”

Rating: 5/10

Crispy Butter Chicken & A Bucket of Cheezy Bacon Fries from KFC (PHP 174)

IMG_20131023_133442

Location: It’s a super secret store.

Nico says: “The flavor is just like any other buttered chicken, and props to KFC for bringing back a crispy chicken that’s not spicy. But that piece right there? That’s so tiny it was insulting. Like KFC was telling me they think I’m fat and I should eat less. And I couldn’t get it in a 2-pc meal either, what’s up with that? So, I ordered a bucket of fries with cheese and bacon to make up for the calorie deficit.”

Rating: 5/10 (I’ll only raise this when you stop serving pygmy chickens)

Menchi Katsu from Yabu (PHP 350)

Serna

Location: 2/F, Atrium, SM Megamall A

Serna says: “The idea of stuffing breaded patties of minced beef and pork with cheese sounded great, but I found that it tasted a little too rich. I wasn’t too fond of the combined taste of the cheese filling and the tonkatsu sauce either. Still, this entree was perfectly fried and the breadcrumb coating-meat ratio was optimal.”

Rating: 6.5/10

  4. Addi dela Cruz says:

D, exactly what I tasted when I had the meal, too.

  5. Kat says:

How was the Cheezy Bacon Fries from KFC?

    • Nico Goco says:

the bacon was in clumps. it was neither bad nor really good, just a non-event, which i suspect all the cheezy bacon things they have to be.

  6. retortingjk says:

The second to the last meal is a platter of heart disease. Skerrrred!

  7. I have the Thor USB and it works. Instead of tweeting Jollibee, just hop on a tricycle and have it exchanged.

    • Lars Roxas says:

i already did. three times. lahat bust.

      • BACON-USB=4 says:

Well I say 6/10 rating the food and I agree with the -2/10 USB so the total is 4/10. I mean come on. BACON.
        And…..
Actually, if you format the USB to other types, it will cause to a malfunction. The type of format allowable for the THOR USB is FAT only; FAT short for “file allocation table”, which is the oldest usb format. It is only and up to 64kbps speed of transfer which is very slow not good for a 1gb usb.
        All other formats don’t work.

So yeah bacon saves the day!!

      • BACON-USB=4 says:

And I agree the tricycle costs

Hindi ka ba tinuruan na if you have nothing nice to say, don’t say anything at all?

  9. shinya says:

My Thor USB worked. Well at least until I tried to copy anything. It would finish, but the moment I connect to another PC those files are broke.

So now I have a tiny Mjolnir paperweight, and something to smash ants with. Until I go to CD-R King for another cheap tiny USB and try to get it in the handle lol

    • Lars Roxas says:

Thanks for sharing! The bee really messed up on this one, I see. If we were in the States, pwedeng class-action na yan. But we’re not (and i don’t think that’d be proper anyway.)

Still, I think airing our grievances is the right thing to do (despite others here saying otherwise).
