Today on Pepper Eats: Our Writers are Clearly Obsessed with Ramen

Shoyu Tonkotsu Ramen from Ramen Yushoken (PHP 350)

Location: Molito, Alabang

Addi says: “In my proud Southerner opinion, Yushoken serves the best ramen in Manila, and this dish affirms it. I wish they’d start offering sumo-size bowls soon.”

Rating: 9.5/10

Super Chasyu Ramen from Ramen Bar (PHP 380)

Location: Eastwood Mall

Adee says: “When it’s raining outside and you have no other ramen options, this is good enough. The chasyu were super soft and flavorful as always. The Aji Tamago was done well, too.”

Rating: 7/10

Beef Stew Pho from Ba Noi’s (PHP 260)

Location: Kapitolyo, Pasig

Diana says: “It has the rich and savory flavors of a proper beef stew, but with the distinctive fresh taste of Vietnamese cuisine. Instantly one of my favorites.”

Rating: 9/10

Polpette from Va Bene (PHP 390)

va bene

Location: Petron Gas Station, Dasmariñas Village North, EDSA

Kat says: “I can’t believe this is an appetizer. The meatballs are large and very tasty. But the star of the show for me is the tomato sauce: bright, fresh-tasting, well-seasoned. The crostone, slathered with ricotta, is great to slop up all that excess sauce. They really should just add pasta to this and serve it as a main.”

Rating: 9/10

Al Funghi Pasta from Green Pastures (PHP 300 for the solo size, PHP 425 to share)

Location: 4th Level, East Wing, Shangri-la Plaza Mall

Mikka says: “With generous portions (this solo serving is actually good for 2), this simple pasta dish tasted everything the menu described it to have: organic mushrooms, garlic, crème fraîche, and pecorino. I appreciated the copious amount of mushrooms, but flavor-wise, it was a bit flat and underwhelming. Not bad, though.”

Rating: 6.7/10

Yuzu-Tama Tonkotsu from Ikkoryu Fukuoka Ramen (PHP 380)

Location: SM Aura

Nico says: “The broth is very rich with a deep pork flavor. This particular bowl is a spice/pepper bomb, which does a good job of cutting through the fatty flavors. The yuzukosyo spice they use, however, is a bit one dimensional. It just gives heat and spice, with none of the citrus flavors coming out. Overall, though, it’s stil a good bowl of ramen.”

Rating: 7/10

Saigon Fried Rice from Zao Vietnamese Bistro (PHP 215)

Location: 5/F, East Wing, Shangri-la Plaza Mall

Serna says: “Zao is famed for its succulent and flavorful barbecue, but this side dish is also equally noteworthy. It has a good sprinkling of Chinese sausage bits and peas, but its flavor is still subtle enough for it to be eaten with other entrees on the menu.”

Rating: 8/10

Nabeyaki Ramen from Ramen Cool (PHP 235)

Location: Kapitolyo

Lars says: “Ramen Cool isn’t really known for authentic or high-end ramen. Still, their Nabeyaki Ramen (their best dish) is pretty okay. Parang sakto lang buko pie, hindi masyadong masarap, pero okay na.”

I love Va Bene! Especially their ricotta-stuffed ravioli and the crabmeat ravioli swimming in seafood bisque!!!

  4. mrdeliciousph says:

That pho looks a little stingy on the herbs… tsk

    • D Camacho says:

In its defense, it came with a plate of bean sprouts and a slice of lime bbbut, come to think of it, there were no herbs nga. 🙁 Still pretty fresh tasting though. 🙂

  5. Nico Goco says:

Wow, you guys had ramen din pala?

  6. Pilar San Luis says:’s obsession with ramen, TMOAC, and everything related to David Chang is out of control! And I mean it in a good way. 😀 Va Bene has been my default Italian resto since it opened three years ago (sorry Cibo, I still love you though). I especially love their Papardelle and Cannelloni.

  7. Lolomiks says:

Waiting for someone to review the “sakto lang” buko pie. Haha.
