Huevos Rancheros that Taste Like a “Jumbled-Up Mess” on Today’s Pepper Eats

January 2, 2019

Speculoos Cookie Butter Mochi from Mochiko (PHP 75)

Location: 5/F Shangri-la Plaza

Addi

Addi says: Of course the base is an actual Speculoos Cookie!!

Rating: 10/10

Soft Steak Tacos from Army Navy (PHP 185)

Location: Shopwise Cubao

Adee

Adee says: “Army Navy’s tacos aren’t the best or most authentic, but I love them nonetheless. Their steak toppings are always seasoned and cooked just right, a fact I know from eating a steak burrito there almost every week. Likewise, their soft flour tortillas have never had an off-night. Great value for money!”

Rating: 8/10

Eggs Benedict from Draft Gastropub (PHP 385)

Location: The Power Plant, Rockwell

Kat

Kat Iriberri says: “The eggs were perfectly cooked, the yolks were runny, thick and a vibrant orange-yellow. But the portions of bacon were small, and the Hollandaise wasn’t as creamy as I hoped, lacked lemon, and was also very slightly congealed at the top when it was served.”

Rating: 6/10

Katsudon from Crazy Katsu (PHP 150)

Location: Maginhawa Street

Lars

Lars says: “Crazy Katsu’s Kastsudon is like the Chickenjoy of locally available Japanese food. Nothing special, but will never disappoint.”

Rating: 8.5/10

Roast Chicken with Mushroom Chardonnay Sauce from Breakfast at Antonio’s (PHP 350)

Location: Tagaytay

Mikka

Mikka says: “The menu says that the chicken was brined for a full day and placed in rotisserie for slow roast. Um, no. This detail didn’t manifest in this very underwhelming dish. The chicken was tough, lacking flavor, and the Chardonnay sauce was bland.”

Rating: 3.5/10

Bacon & Egg French Toast from Chop Stop (PHP 79)

Location: Along Valero St., Makati

Nico

Nico says: “I was surprised that this was a sandwich, instead of two pieces of french toast, with bacon and eggs on the side. Still, the thing worked. The toast was nice and crisp. Each bite delivered that perfect mix of salty, savory, and sweet goodness and was helped along by dunking the sandwich in maple syrup. Could use more bacon, though.”

Rating: 7.5/10

Huevos Rancheros from Maple (PHP 340)

Location: East Wing, Shangri-La Mall

photo

Mylene says: “This tasted like a jumbled up mess of ingredients that don’t go well with each other. I’m giving it a 5/10 only because I don’t know how a real Huevos Rancheros should taste like, but i’m pretty sure I didn’t like this version.”

Rating: 5/10

Al Pastor, Lengua, Carne Asada Tacos from El Chupacabra (PHP 90 each)

Location: Polaris St., Makati

Pam says: “I probably eat here around twice every month at the very least. The folks here get awards from me for most authentic Mexican in the metro, and for the best atmosphere for a relaxed, awesome night out. I love you El Chupacabra. Don’t ever change.”

Rating: 10 out of 10 hugs

Burrata Caprese from Mesclun Bistro (PHP 695)

Location: Serendra, Fort Bonifacio

Jao

Kat Jao says: “Burrata, Italian cheese made of mozzarella & cream. This is love.”

Rating: 11/10

Pavlova Mango and Passion Fruit from People’s Palace (PHP 290)

Location: G/F, Greenbelt 3

Serna

Serna says: “This was a pretty good execution of an East-meets-West dish, with the tart sweetness of the mango along with the tropical fragrance of the passion fruit  lending a citrusy counterpoint to the hearty meringue. The serving size makes this a bit too much for just one person, however.”

Rating: 8/10

Takoyaki from Hana (PHP 120 for six pieces)

Location: Little Tokyo, Makati

Takoyaki Hana

Diana says: “I had to wait twenty minutes for my order, but the slight char on the outside in contrast to the silky texture of the batter, as well as the salty-sweet kick of the takoyaki sauce and bonito flakes, made for a proper grown-up party in my mouth. Party needed a little spicing up though (or I just like hot sauce on everything).”

Rating: 8.5/10

Maple is crap. everything they serve their is underwhelming, overpriced crap. With bad service. I understand this restaurant is by the people behind Pancake House.

they should have stuck with that.

As a BIIIIG fan of Takoyaki, I’d say Hana is really one of the best in the Metro! I shall visit Little Tokyo as soon as I get off work! Mehehe <3 #Craving
