We Sampled BonChon’s Crispy Crepe in Today’s Pepper Eats

November 27, 2018

Pepper Eats is our weekly photo-journal featuring food we stuffed our faces with.

Cronuts from Wildflour (PHP 120-150 per pc.)

Addi says: “I enjoyed the layered pastry’s deep fried, crusty yet soft texture more than the sweet topping and filling. (See How to Reach Today’s Sugar Quota.)”

Diner’s rating: 6.5/10

Smoked Duck Breast in Tossed Hoisin Noodles from Kanzhu (PHP 185)

Adee says: “Worth a try, if only for the perfectly seasoned duck breast. The hoisin sauce in the noodles was a bit too sweet and overwhelming for me.”

Diner’s rating: 7/10

Inasal Pecho and Garlic Rice from JT’s Manukan Grille (PHP 120 total)

Kat says: “The chicken was juicy and tender, although I remember the meat being more flavorful than this from previous visits. That said, JT’s is still my favorite among the Inasal chains in Manila.”

Diner’s rating: 7/10

Deep Fried Mangos and Cream Crepe from Bonchon (PHP 60)

Lars says: “Imagine Jollibee’s Peach Mango pie except with less filling, less flavor, harder to eat, more expensive, and less actual fruit. Now, take that mental image and make it around two and a half times worse.”

Diner’s rating: 2.7/10

Red Velvet Vixen from Cupcakes by Sonja (PHP 78)

Mikka says: “I usually order the Bunny Hugger carrot cupcake whenever I’m at Sonja’s because their Red Velvet used to have a banana-y taste. I don’t know if they changed the recipe, but their version now is packed with more cocoa flavor. And did I mention that I’m a sucker for their cream cheese frosting?”

Diner’s rating: 8/10

Pork Chop with Italian Herbs and Gruyere Cheese from Cecil’s (PHP 195)

Nico says: “The pork chop was cooked well, the breading was crispy, and the meat still juicy. But you had to try hard to taste the herbs and the cheese. Looks like someone was stingy on the ingredients.”

Diner’s rating: 6/10

Salted Caramel Ice Cream from Merry Moo (PHP 110 for two scoops)

Serna says: “A must for salted caramel fanatics.”

Diner’s Rating: 8/10

Would really help if you add the locations for the restaurants featured in this series.

I’m especially curious about the cronuts. Only read about them. They’re so popular in the US. I didn’t realize that they’ve already started selling them here. Want to try them out…
