Jollibee’s New Burger Steak Meal Comes with Rice and Mashed Potato but It’s Not Disgusting

October 5, 2014

When I was still a tiny embryo, my mom craved for Jollibee Yum Burgers and would eat them incessantly during her pregnancy. I’d like to believe this is responsible for two things: (1) my round face and (2) my secret love for the fast food chain. When I was a kid (and until now, who am I kidding), Jollibee Burger Steak and Chickenjoy were my favorite fast food meals of choice. Being the glutton that I was, I always ordered the two piece burger steak, because just one patty never seemed to be enough for the rice.

Thank God for the Ultimate Burger Steak. With its much thicker patty, I was finally able to have the perfect meat-to-rice ratio. The fries were a little overkill, but the addition of the egg made everything just a little more indulgent. Now, you can get it with mashed potato instead of the fries, a fully-loaded, ridiculous carb-on-carb experience.

This new version is exactly like the one before it: a gigantic, juicy patty, covered in their signature mushroom gravy, topped with an egg and mash. The mash obviously feels thick and pasty, but as far as fast food goes, it does the trick, making it a cheap version of a Salisbury steak. I can’t believe I’m saying this, but the rice feels like overkill, so you end up deciding between the mash or the rice; eating both seems way too hedonistic. Ultimately it doesn’t matter–this stuff is good.

What do you think about Jollibee’s newest Ultimate Burger Steak with Mashed Potato? Do you like it better with fries or with rice? Sound off in the comments section below!

having the mashed potato than fries is one of jollibee’s great decision!

I liked it. I don’t like fries kasi, so this one is much better. I didn’t eat the rice tho. I’m going to order it again and partner it with steamed veggies. ahh heaven. :3

  3. I admit to be a fan of the Ultimate Burger Steak (UBS) when the french fries variant came out. It probably was because the fries added texture when you ate a piece or two while chowing down on the well-known burger with mushroom gravy along with your rice. When the mashed potato version went rolling out in stores, I was curious to try it.

I was like, “How do I eat this? Do I eat all foodstuffs at once?” There was so much inside the box it was like those cafeteria meal US kids get. Although I was disappointed with my first try, I thought it tasted bland or perhaps it lacked the texture of the fries. I was willing to give it another shot, on my second UBS-MP I noticed it finally had garlic chips which added REALLY GOOD depth of flavor. Not to mention that your burger looks like a taal volcano of sorts.

Jollibee needs to step up on the R&D though, Their UBS is just slapping together what they already have into something that’s marketed to be different. Chowking has lots going on with new and fresh products, I think Jollibee should follow suit.
