Mexican Fruit Salad is The Fruit Salad that Mayo-Haters Need

Though there are many kinds of fruit salad—syrup-y ones, ones with vinaigrette dressing, the creamy kind—it is the last one that we are most familiar with. The mayo-based fruit salad that is a potluck favorite is often either loved or loathed, and nothing in between. For those who fall under the latter category, here is an alternative fruit salad that may better suit your palate.

Spicy and sweet—a winning dessert combo.

More suitable for dessert or an afternoon snack, this Mexican fruit salad takes sweet, tropical fruits and just lightly coats them in a mixture of lime, sugar, and tajin, which used to be a specialty item that is now more widely available in groceries. You can substitute out the fruits for any other tropical, but the ones here are our favorite to match the tartness of the tajin.

Mexican Fruit Salad

  • 1 cup mango, diced
  • 1 cup pineapple, diced
  • 1 cup watermelon, diced


  • 2 tbsp. lime juice
  • 2 tbsp. sugar
  • 2 tsp. tajin, plus more for sprinkling


  1. In a large bowl, toss together mango, pineapple, and watermelon.
  2. Add lime juice, sugar, and tajin.
  3. Toss until well coated.
  4. Wrap bowl in plastic and place in fridge until fruits are well chilled, at least 30 minutes.
  5. Serve with more tajin as desired.
