Food Hack: Gino’s Brick Oven Pizza’s Spicy HoneyJuly 19, 2016
I’m not entirely sure what’s the best part of this recipe—the fact that I can have this all the time now, or that it’s ridiculously easy to make. Having your own batch of spicy honey in the cupboard can improve your dishes: think of all the homemade pizzas or desserts you can serve alongside this! (We highly encourage you to be a little adventurous with this sauce.)
Honey, while a straightforward and sweet flavoring, can have many complex flavors based on the flowers that the bees collect from. In this spicy variant, the spice from the chilies may be strong but allows the layers of flavor in the honey to shine through. Besides giving you a chance to be more adventurous in your kitchen, the sauce lets you appreciate the complex undertones of the syrup.
We’re proud to say that we’ve hacked this spicy honey recipe for all the home cooks who’ve dreamed of having this with their favorite dishes. Be cautious with adding the chilies in this recipe, and always remember that a little goes a long way. If you find our recipe too spicy, you can easily dilute it with honey, or turn it up a notch by making it even spicier. Go ahead, make a batch for yourself, or to give away to your friends—we promise we won’t tell!
