There is a great caffeine divide, two teams stand triumphantly head to head against each other. One staunchly defending the merits of a traditional cup of tea and the other raving about the highly addictive, much sought out coffee. Admittedly, I count myself as a member of Team Coffee. No meeting, or day is complete without a cup of this soothing brew. Otherwise, I blearily go through the day incomplete by the lack of java in my system. Lately, a new coffee trend has emerged by the name of Bulletproof Coffee. (No, it does not repel bullets—you may or may not feel bulletproof after a cup though) A multi-hyphenate elixir, this drink does more than fill up your daily caffeine content. Created by Dave Asprey in 2009 and first published on his blog, he was inspired by the yak butter tea in Tibet. Asprey built a brand and thriving company that shares its name with the popular style of coffee. A cup reportedly increases cognitive functions and the drinkers’ metabolism.
Our recipe consists of coffee, butter, coconut oil, and honey. Blending all the ingredients together make for a frothy concoction. Slightly creamy and very smooth without compromising the strong flavor of its main ingredients. Though we can’t confirm or deny that a cup of bulletproof coffee will give your metabolism a boost or make you sharper in the board room, this cup of joe is definitely a refreshing change to your usual morning brew.
Yield: 1 serving
Time: 5 minutes
- 1 cup organic dark roast coffee
- 1 tsp coconut oil
- 1 tbsp grass-fed unsalted butter
- 1 tsp raw honey
Combine all the ingredients in a blender or food processor. Mix on high speed for 20 seconds until frothy. Drink immediately.
