Before Bon Chon came to the Philippines, the art of Korean fried chicken was relatively unknown. Now that we see it almost everywhere in the city, Bon Chon has remained one of the most well-known in the game, introducing various flavors and products to keep themselves one step ahead. We at Pepper decided to put together a Team Pepper Bon Chon Meal, which includes our favorites from the new items, and will give you options that include everything from mains to sides to dessert.
We grabbed a Seafood Platter (PHP 399), a box of their new Crunchy Garlic chicken (PHP 380 for 6 pieces combo drumsticks and thighs), some Seoul Fried Rice (PHP 45) and Bulgogi Noodle Soup (PHP 60) for our main meal, and finished it off with a Blueberry Torte, Mango Sansrival, and Banoffe Pie Ko-Yo (PHP 75) for a sweet ending. The new Crunchy Garlic is an alternative to the usual spicy or sweet Bon Chon chicken, and studded with crispy pieces of fried garlic. The batter is incredibly light, and almost dissolves at each bite. It is never too oily, so the juicy dark meat still takes centre stage, and its meaty flavor pairs up with the sweet and crunchy garlic to a tee.
We also ordered the Seafood Platter, which offers all sorts of flavors and textures, with succulent fish and juicy shrimp covered in sweet batter, and calamari in a salty crispy coating. Not many people have discovered the bulgogi noodle soup yet, but the sweet, clear stew is so delicious you might find yourself pouring it over your fully loaded Korean rice.
