Babu is the brainchild of chefs Him Uy de Baron (of Makansutra, I Am Kim, Ping Pong Diplomacy) and Noel Mauricio (of Tasteless Food Group). The pair created the stall to fill the gap of Southeast Asian food in The Grid Food Market. Before Babu, there was only Flower Boy (Tankchop XL), which exclusively serves Thai food. But with the arrival of stall #7’s new tenant, diners can now enjoy Indonesian, Malaysian, and Singaporean comfort food.
We highly recommend their laksa. It’s heavy broth coats your palate with a medley of flavors—a sign that tells you that they don’t skimp on quality ingredients. The noodles are thick and tender; they’re a bit slippery (we’re not at all mad about it, though), so come with your best chopstick skills. And maybe be prepared to have a few spills here and there. Go all the way and order the premium version, which comes with a generous amount of seafood.
