There’s just something about footballor soccer, if you must define it differently from the American hand-egg. Games are also best enjoyed with company and good food especially during vampiric hours. A number of places do show the  games live in spite of the time difference, while offering good drinks and game grub to keep one awake for all those goals. If you’re hardcore enough to come in costume, chances are you’ll be among likeminded folks here, at some of the bars where you can catch this year’s FIFA World Cup.

1. Skinny Mike’s

The bar makes use of HD internet TV to show the game live on several screens on their second floor, and one big projection screen on their third floor. Come in before midnight games on Wednesdaynot just to get good seats, but for their PHP 10 wing promo.

2. H&J

H&J is the reincarnation of the former Heckle & Jeckle on the corner of Jupiter, now found in the Burgos area of Makati. Since the name change and the move, it has shifted focus as a sports bar and restaurant catering to the expat community.

3. Brotzeit

For those in the Mandaluyong and Ortigas Area, Brotzeit is staying true to its roots as a bier bar by showing this year’s games. A plus for German fans; they can relish their wins over wurst, or drown out their losses with with a weiszbier.

4. Cable Car

Their main Makati branch may have closed, and been replaced with a more ‘club-like’ concept in the Fort, but the legend is very much alive in Quezon City. Fuel up with their signature Cable Car fried rice while enjoying special discounts on drinks during the game. They also accept table reservations, so you may want to call ahead if you’re bringing a whole team to watch.

5. Howzat

While a given, a list such as this isn’t complete without it. When it comes to major sports tournaments, even with sports such as cricket, you will find any fan base at Howzat. No wonder too, as where else will you find a sports bar here with screens in their bathroom?

Mia Marci likes sampling street food, even if she doesn't know what's in it. She's gotten sick to her stomach on occasion because of this hazardous curiosity, but even the strictest of doctors couldn't stop her. Mia also writes about video games, travel, and girly issues for other publications. She also teaches English and Creative Writing. In the little spare time she has left, she catches up on film and TV shows, while cuddling up to her dog and cat.

Just to add, there’s also Handlebar (if it’s still open) on Jupiter and this popular sports bar in BF (can’t remember the name, but it’s on Aguirre right before the Elizalde stoplight).
