5-Minute Goodness: Salted Caramel Chocolate Mug Cake

August 26, 2018

Here’s an extremely quick way to prepare a melt-in-your-mouth Salted Caramel Chocolate Cake without the fuss of using your baking oven. All you need is your everyday coffee mug, the ingredients below, 5 minutes, and a microwave oven. It’s so easy, you can stuff the ingredients in your office pantry and make this just in time for your coffee break.

Of course, you shouldn’t keep your expectations high and envision a rich, moist, fluffy chocolate cake settled in your mug. This concoction has the consistency of a denser pudding, if anything else. It’s nothing classy and upscale, but it would do as a convenient dessert. Plus, it doesn’t call for desperation, so you can satisfy your sweet fix any time of the day (especially with a generous scoop of vanilla ice cream on top).

Salted Caramel Chocolate Mug Cake

Total Time: 10 minutes / Yield: 1 serving

  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/8-1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 tbsp oil
  • 1 egg
  • 3-4 pcs  Kraft Caramel cubes

  1. In a bowl, combine all the ingredients. Whisk well until smooth.
  2. Pour the batter into mug. Slowly drop caramel into the batter.
  3. Microwave for 2 minutes or when cooked but still moist.

I discovered this when I was 5… I mixed some Milo, Powdered Milk, Sugar, Egg and Hotcake mix in a mug and then microwaved for 3-5 minutes until it looked like a souffle and rose out of my mug. Single serving cake, no messy bowls to clean up. It was my favorite snack growing up!

I love your recipes but is there a way that I can do this in an oven toaster? teehee

    • Lars Roxas says:

Only if your oven toaster has a temp knob. 🙂 Set it to around 175°C (preheated ofcourse) then cook for 15-20 minutes. Bantayan mo to make sure you don’t over cook it (iba iab kasi ang mga oven at oven toaster) 🙂 goodluck!
