Why We Love and Hate Mcdonald’s for their “Disappearing Acts”

McDonald's Longganisa Burger 1

Like a best friend who has body odor, McDonald’s is easy to love and hate.

We love McDonald’s for many reasons; but we hate them for one—their ridiculously annoying habit of pulling beloved products off the shelves.

We used to love Chicken Nuggets in big boxes of 12 or 24. We used to look forward to their Twister Fries everytime we visit. We thought their Rice Burger was just pure genius.

However, just as the Avengers coldly killed Phil Coulson, McDonald’s took away all our favorites.

To protest, we decided to resurrect our personal favorite among the dishes they killed—the Longganisa Rice Burger. If you’ve been craving for this dish for the last few years, then here’s a bigger and better version.

McDonald's Longganisa Burger 2

So, if you want to get back at McDonalds for taking away our beloved food, cook this rice burger instead of buying stuff from them.

By doing that, you can make them lose approximately P100 worth of sales for every rice burger we cook for ourselves. If we keep at it, we’ll eventually put them out of business in five hundred years or so.

So dear McDonald’s, if you still want your business, here’s a serious (but empty) threat: give us back our rice burger.

Mcdonald's Longganisa Rice Burger
makes 2 servings

Ingredients

  • 2 cups Cooked japanese rice
  • 4 pcs Sweet longganisa
  • 2 pcs Eggs
  • 2-3 tbsp Thick barbecue sauce (Cattlemen's BBQ Sauce or any other bottled BBQ Sauce)
  • Cooking oil for Pan-frying

Procedure

  1. Divide rice into 4 and form each into patties. Set aside.
  2. Remove longganisa from casing and mash it.
  3. Divide into two and shape into patties. Set aside.
  4. Heat non-stick pan on medium flame and pan-fry rice on both sides until brown. (About 2-3 minutes on each side.)
  5. Transfer to a plate.
  6. Pan-fry longganisa patties for 2-3 minutes on each side or until browned and cooked fully.
  7. Transfer to another plate.
  8. Cook egg in a ring mold to get it perfectly round and fit for the burger.

Assembly

  1. Lay down one rice bun, top with egg then longga burger.
  2. Drizzle with barbecue sauce and top with another bun.

I loved their rice burgers! The toasted sesame seeds on top were the best. I rarely eat at McDo but if they would bring rice burgers back, maybe you’d be seeing me at a McDonald’s more often. Heh, partially kidding about that last bit. :)

I loved their rice burgers too! And twister fries! I hate that they pull it out and bring it back again and again, they should just make it a regular item on the menu.

Will try this one with Calumpit longganisa, which has a less sweet taste.

    • Vinnie

Here! Here! Calumpit longganisa… It was love at first bite… a definite contender to the rice burger’s revolutionary upgrade…

  • Vinnie

Oh my… I forgot about this! The once “avant-garde” rice burger… I did try it once… it’s like eating kalamay with meat… interesting taste… definitely different but unfortunately, it obviously vanished from the shelves and got itself in the archives. Will it be given a chance resurrection? That is up to its fans and Mc Donald’s masterminds…
